My first World Music Day Concert attendance was in 2022 at the Alliance Française in Nairobi. Lockdown was easing up and it felt good to be out in the open celebrating with other people. The headliner for the evening was Dan Aceda. It was also the first time I heard Wanavokali play.

I missed the next two editions; 2023 (I completely forgot about it) & 2024 (it rained, I think so).  I had to attend this year and I’m glad I did as I met two incredible talented individuals.

The first performance was by Islam Elbeiti, a Sudanese bass player, radio presenter, and social change activist, who performed amazing jazz renditions together with her band.

The headliner was Kasiva Mutua, who started her set with a beautiful intro. The quality of the music, instruments, band was amazing. You know that you have love new music if after the event, you go on YouTube and Spotify and listen to it endlessly.

At 11pm Dj Suraj took the decks but at this point I was ready to go home.
I made a decision that this year, I would attend more concerts and events and so far I am enjoying the ride.
